I am finding that the flash object containing mss is not been refreshed when the browser is refreshed - have to close/open the tab or whole browser.

I found the link below that I THINK addresses the issue but cannot get it to work.... I am adding the random variable on the end of the object as I read the solution.....
    ......new SWFObject("monoslideshow.swf?nocach=3"............

I tried the whole meta data PRAGMA and Expire in the past (and adding the random to the url itself) but that does not affect it either (which sort of makes sense since that is the html portion). I also tried adding a new var to the object but that has no affect either.

    <a href="http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_15951&sliceId=2">Adobe - Flash Support</a>

Can anyone help me get this working - at a bit of a loss what I am missing??

You know... I knew this was community support for the most part but I have asked a number of questions that have got nothing in the way of replies. I am trying to give back where I can and have answered far more questions then I have asked even though I am new to this product.....

This one at least has been asked a few times over the last few weeks, so you would be helping others besides me. There are a number of other questions I would love some thoughts on if you have the inclination..... just scroll back a bit.

    rob,

Like you, sometimes I haven't received replies. I wonder where Monokai is at the moment.

I suppose the first thing to ask you is where can I have a look at the slideshow you are trying to refresh so I can test from this end.
I don't need the "meta data PRAGMA and Expire"
My 40+ slideshows work quite well after a browser refresh.
    Which browser do you use?

Hey.... Thx for anything you might be able to help with....

It's still under devl but the mono portion of this is all set.....
** dropped the url, sorry not looking for any publicity on this one... see next reply to get solution **

I use IE6, IE7 & FF2 to check it out (I got a CSS bug on the nav bar but ignore that for the moment :-) but the refresh issue is the same with any of those 3 browsers.

That *********.php file has nothing in it apart from the header/footer stuff with the flash object imbedded. I generate the XML file via another php script but it's static to that page above.

What I find is that when I regen the XML file... the changes are not reflected unless I open the url in another tab or browser. Even a forced refresh in the current tab soes not change the contents of the flash file.

Hey Bikkies.... I got it sorted but thx for the offer to have a look (seems like no one else is bothering to read). I had to go back and think about what assumptions I was making without thinking about it and that got me the problem......

For anyone else that is having this prob... It's the caching of the XML file itself NOT the flash object. The sequence to cause the error is (in IE6/7 or FF2 anyway)...
    1) create an XML file. 2) open in browser. 3) Change XML file. 4) Refresh in browser expecting new result. -> Result is caches version.

When you construct the XML file name put a "&anydamnname=anydamnvalue" on the end of it. This causes the browser to think it's a different XML file BUT mono ignores any of the variable stuff on the end of the file name.

Since some of my users are dial-up (tell me about it), I don't want to force a reload of the XML file each time they see the page, which is what adding a random thing on the end will do. What I am doing now is to save the timestamp from when the XML file is regenerated and in my PHP that builds the gallery page, I add that to the timestamp (a small portion of it actually) to the xml filename. If there is no change it will use the cache in the browser and if it changes, then the XML file is reloaded from the server.

Hi Rob, I've got the same problem as you and I can't get your fix to work. The xml is not refreshing. Can you explain what exactly I need to add onto the end of the file name. It was originally monoslideshow2.xml and I tried monoslideshow2&test=1.xml but it didn't work. The xml isn't refreshing at all.

    The site is

    <blockquote>"It was originally monoslideshow2.xml and I tried monoslideshow2&test=1.xml but it didn't work."</blockquote>

Almost... You want the XML file to be monoslideshow2.xml?nocache=12345

The "nocache" is just a variable name, pick anything you like. The value can also be anything you like; If you want a new copy EVERY time then use a time or random value. In my case I am using a time based value from when I created the XML file (I use a database behin the app and I save the timestamp whenever I re-generate the XML file so it's easy for me to construct a slowly changing value for the nocache variable)... so the cache is used as long as the file has not changed.

Hi Rob - thank you for putting your solution about the parameter - works a treat.
