I created a monoslide banner with 2 jpegs and an animated SWF, which I want to run only once. I added an actionscript "stop" to the SWF but no matter when the slideshow comes around to this SWF the animated text not only loops three times (monoslide transition is set at 8 seconds) but it is really fast!

Maybe it is not possible to stop the SWF from looping. If possible how do I get this SWF i placed inside monoslideshow to stop looping?

Sorry, don't know the answer to your question, but perhaps the following helps anyway:
    1) Make sure you are using AS3 as AS2 has been proven to be incompatible with MSS.
    2) You can change the transition time per item (you need a separate configuration tag for that item, it's quite simple), so should you not succeed in stopping your movie, you can simply cut it off by adjusting the transition time accordingly.

If you are using v1, I believe it is AS2.
    V2 is AS3 for sure.

When V 2.0 was released, it stated it had been totally rewritten in AS3. I don't know if that meant the first version was AS2 or if it meant that the programming had simply been changed in AS3.

Thanks but I am not sure what you mean by "AS3" and "AS2".
