Here is the xml I am using but I am confused about what parameter to use in preferences or caption node to add in order to get it to work.

Christioph, I was simply trying to hide the captions altogether which I would think would be simple.

Jarredja, when I try the imageInfoAlpha parameter I get this error in monoslideshow
Attribute "imageInfoAlpa" in [GLOBAL] is undefined.

    Thanks,
    Laith

imageInfoAlpha="0" works for me in V1.32. However it only seems to get rid of the background, not the text. See here,

I assume if you get rid of the title on the flickr feed itself, it will take care of this issue too.

Ah, I didn't understand the question. Yes, if there is no title, nothing is displayed.
