I am having a serious problem with video sound in monoslideshow 2.0. The first time a video is played after the page is loaded there is no sound. However the sound sometimes works on subsequent plays. The video format is FLV and I've tried 3 different video files from different sources so I know it is not related to the FLV files themselves and must be something in monoslideshow.

Here is the page that contains the monoslideshow player:
    http://7design.sww.co.nz/mockup4.html

You can view my XML file here:
    http://7design.sww.co.nz/mockup4.xml

By the way the 'watch video' links are just 'jumpToImage' calls to the javascript api. The problem occurs no matter what the method of navigation to the videos. I have also tested in multiple browsers and on different computers and it is the same problem in each case.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    any ideas, anyone?

Try converting your flv's into swfs, worth a try.

    Thanks for your reply Christoph.

Is there some reason why sound might be failing when flv files are used in monoslideshow? I have not encountered this problem before with other players.

Is it something to do with the way the flv is loaded or buffering, etc? Anything that can be fixed in configuration settings or is it a bug in monoslideshow?

The sample files play fine in other players. e.g. I have tested this one in JW media player and there is no problem with sound:
    http://7design.sww.co.nz/mediaplayer/test.html

As for converting from flv to swf I am a bit confused about doing that because I thought the reason to do that is to add a player over the video but monoslideshow is already a video player. But if you think it's a good idea, can you suggest a tool for doing that? Would converting flv to swf increase the file size and/or degrade the video quality? Is flv format not supported by monoslideshow?

    Thanks,
    Aidan

I'm still waiting for an answer to this.

I tried converting to swf format but the swf does not play at all (just shows the exclamation mark graphic) - what's going on?

    Christoph,
I have set up another test page with just default configuration for testing this issue:
    http://7design.sww.co.nz/videotest.html

As you will see the video sound works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't, I cannot find any pattern. This is very frustrating, I have wasted many hours trying to troubleshoot it and I have spent a lot of time building a solution based on monoslideshow. I really need support on this problem now because it looks like this is a bug in monoslideshow. I've tried .swf and .mp4 videos but they don't play at all.

All I want is to be able to play videos and have the sound play 100% of the time - please tell me how to do it. If this cannot be done with the current version of monoslideshow, you need to fix it asap and in the meantime stop selling this faulty version or at least alert potential customers to the problem.

    Thanks,
    Aidan

I will take a look too. I see you have all formats in your demo. By the way, to my knowledge, Christoph is a user of the software and has nothing to do with development. He simply offers his time to help others. To contact the developer, use the contact form found on this site.

    try the swf with this.
    source="mono/sample.swf"

    Edit: where is your sample.swf?

    Thanks for responding Jarredja.

I made the assumption that Christoph was part of the monoslideshow operation since he seems to be the main person answering questions around here (and he's got that special icon next to his name). My apologies Christoph if my assumption was wrong, my comments are directed at the person or people running Monokai. Are they offering support for their product? I would expect it with a paid product.

Jarredja, you can find the sample swf file in the test slideshow I set up. The direct link to it is: http://7design.sww.co.nz/images/storyboard1/sample.swf. By the way I have also tried the f4v format and that does play but same sound problems as flv.

Jarredja, I did try it with full path in source attribute but that doesn't work either.

I can't get your swf or mp4 to work at all with Monoslideshow. Does it possibly not meet the standards listed on the site below? I know nothing about converting video.

I did get an mp4 working that I had saved from previous issue but could not get yours to work next to it. For testing I used the basic zipped file of version 2.13, also dropped in the swf from 2.05 to rule out a bad monoslideshow.swf.

I see the video at your test page. I think the playing of audio has either something to do with playing videos in combination with the pause button, or with playing videos in combination with the pause action. I'll have a look and try to fix it in the next update.

@Monokai: Not quite sure by what you mean by 'playing videos in combination with the pause button' - isn't it the standard default to have a pause button? My second test page is just the default configuration. So is it correct to say that video sound is not working correctly in monoslideshow?

When do you expect the next update to be released?

In the meantime, is there some workaround so that I can make video sound work consistently?

I appreciate your efforts to resolve this problem.

@Jarredja: Thanks very much for checking this. I used converter tools to convert fla video to swf and f4v (Allok Video Convertor to make the swf file and Moyea Video Convertor to make the f4v file). The mp4 file I downloaded as a sample from the Quicktime website. The videos all play fine on local desktop. If conversion of flv to another format is a useful workaround for getting the sound to work, can someone point me in the right direction regarding what format to convert to and what tool to use?

I mean that internally, in the source code of Monoslideshow, there's something wrong with the pause functionality in combination with the audio of a video. It seems like a very specific bug, but I have to investigate a little more. I think that an update with some minor fixes is to be expected this month.

Thanks for clarifying. I look forward to the update. Can you reply back on this thread when issue is fixed or if there are any updates/workarounds/etc.?
