Is there a way, using this tool, to link directly to a specific image? I'd like to use it for portfolio projects, because it's much more customizable and prettier than SlideShowPro, but with a portfolio, it's essential to be able to provide links directly to individual images (IMO).

If it's not possible yet, consider this a feature request....

    TIA

You can link images to a URL by adding the link attribute to the "img" tag in your XML file. Have a look at page 8 of the manual, "attributes for images", for further info.

Actually, I was addressing the opposite issue -- I want to be able to provide a link directly to a specific image within the slide show. If I want someone to go look at the 27th image in the slideshow, I don't want to have to say, "go to mysite.com, click on the little icon to open up the thumbnail view, go to the second page, click on the third image from the left in the second row." I want to say, "go to mysite.com/?im=27" or even better, "go to mysite.com/?im=image-title," or still better, "mysite.com/image-title".

I know that there difficulties with getting flash to work with bookmarking the application state, and all the solutions are compromises of one kind or another, but take a look at how SSP does it -- that solution is an acceptible compromise for the purpose.

You would have to do that in PHP I guess. Pass the image id in the link to a PHP script, and then start monoslideshow with a PHP generated xml that will bring up the image with id="27". Something along those lines. I've only just begun exploring PHP, so I can't give you any specific script code.

<strong>sprugman </strong>- I didn't realise SSP could do that, sounds interesting. How exactly do you link to a specific image in SSP, can you point me to a demo with a URL as I would be really interested to see that in action. Saying that I am really pleased with the way MonoSlideshow works.

Fuzzphoto is right, you could take the query string parameter and generate the XML on the fly. I think there is a parameter which allows you to start on a certain photo in an album but I would need to check the manual.

Ah, yes. That sounds like a good partial solution. (And you could do it with JS only if you wanted -- wouldn't need PHP.) The problem with it is that you have to guess at the proper url.

In SSP, if you set the permalinks parameter, it changes the url (using JS) with each slide change. Thus you can copy and paste and bookmark a particular image. Here's an example: http://webqa.exeter.edu/gallery.html#id=Katrina&num=5.
